Project Brackish — Site Tour

Project Brackish is a farm + production operations platform for shellfish, seaweed, mushroom, and produce growers — and the small food businesses they supply. We're built for Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA), polyculture, aquaponics, and any co-op running land and sea operations side by side. Below is a walkthrough of every major module with realistic mockups — so you know exactly what you'd be getting before you ask for an invite.

Dashboard

Farming Ops

Species-aware schedules, from spawn run to final flush.

Define per-species stage templates — mushrooms get spawn run → colonization → pinning → flush 1 → flush 2, oysters get their own arc. Every stocking auto-generates a planned-vs-actual timeline you adjust week by week, with overdue stages flagged.

  • Per-species stage templates (mushroom, shellfish, produce, fish)
  • Auto-generated stage checkpoints on every stocking
  • Planned vs actual dates, status per stage, overdue flags
  • Multi-stage harvest → processing → inventory pipeline

Site Map

Your farm on a map — uploaded aerial or satellite, every zone wired to the platform.

Upload a site plan, blueprint, or drone shot for each farm site — or skip the image entirely and draw directly over high-resolution Esri satellite tiles. Search by address, drop a lat/lng, or use your phone's GPS to centre the view, then sketch rectangles, circles, or freeform polygons for growing units, processing rooms, cold storage, packing, hatchery, and office. Link zones to growing units and they instantly carry stockings, harvests, and stage progress.

  • Upload any image per site — blueprint, sketch, drone shot
  • Or draw over free satellite imagery (Esri World Imagery via Leaflet)
  • Centre by address search, lat/lng input, or device GPS
  • Draw rectangle, circle, or polygon zones with kind-based colors
  • Link zones to growing units → stockings & harvests follow
  • Optional GPS per zone for real-world coordinates

Orders

Fulfillment that moves with you, stage by stage.

Draft → Confirmed → Picking → Packed → Shipped → Delivered → Invoiced. Inline 'make batch' and 'reorder' actions on every line so shortages turn into purchase orders without leaving the screen.

  • Stage-driven workflow with audit history
  • Shortage detection that auto-creates tasks and POs
  • Per-line make/reorder actions — no tab switching

Inventory

Ingredients and packaging, with lot-level traceability.

Stock, threshold, vendor, last cost — and every lot tracked individually so you can trace a finished case back to the day it was received.

  • Low-stock alerts with vendor + lead-time context
  • Lot-level history for traceability and audits
  • Receiving a PO writes the lot and the expense automatically

Projections

Set the target. Watch the gap close.

Revenue, harvest qty, and expense-budget targets per week / month / quarter / season. The dashboard renders actual vs target with trend, so you know early — not at the post-mortem.

  • Targets per horizon, per metric
  • Pace indicators tell you on-track / behind, mid-season
  • Expense budgets render inverse — under-budget is the goal

Mobile

Same platform on your phone — installable, offline-friendly, built for the dock.

Add to Home Screen
Full-screen app experience — no browser bars, opens straight into the dashboard.
1Open this site in Safari (Apple only allows Safari to install).
2Tap the Share button.
3Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
4Tap Add.
Menu lives top-left (once signed in)
Inside the app, tap the menu icon in the header — the sidebar slides in as a sheet. Same data, designed for thumbs.
My Tasks — your day, with directions
Open /my-tasks to see everything assigned to you. Each task with a location shows one-tap Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Copy-coords buttons.
Tasks on the go
Built for the field: check what's assigned to you, mark done, snap a photo when needed.
Farming Ops in your pocket
Log stocking events, harvests, and observations from the dock. Map picker uses your phone's GPS — or snap to a permitted NOAA AOA zone.
Save the spot you just harvested
Drop a harvest pin from the boat — it's saved under Harvest Locations with one-tap directions for next time.
Quick stock check
Tap an item to see lot history, last cost, and trigger a reorder task.
Log expenses from the field
Catch a fuel receipt the moment it happens — one tap from the menu.
Everything else

Plus the supporting cast — vendors, expenses, exports, team, and more.

Compliance Hub — one-stop shop
Track, prepare, and submit every permit, license, and food-safety registration from one screen. The recommendation engine reads your sites, harvests, processing, and sales channels and tells you exactly what applies — federal, state, and county.
Smart permit recommendations
Auto-detects operation tags from your real data (in-water lease, shellfish, finfish, seaweed, hatchery, processing, interstate, export, organic, water discharge) and matches them against a curated catalog covering ACOE/NOAA, FDA FSMA Preventive Controls & Produce Safety, USDA-FSIS, ISSC shellfish shipping, and CDPH / county health.
Compliance profile
An editable profile captures the signals we can't infer — processing status, interstate/export sales, workforce size, water discharge or withdrawal, organic certification. Update once and every recommendation, sub-report, and renewal reflects it.
Renewals & deadlines
Every permit you add gets renewal tracking with deadline alerts, so nothing lapses mid-season. Sub-reports group obligations by jurisdiction for quick prep before inspections.
Built for IMTA & polyculture
Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture is a first-class citizen — model finfish, shellfish, and seaweed at different trophic levels on the same lease, with nutrient flow noted alongside stockings and harvests. Land-based polyculture and aquaponics use the same schema.
Land + sea, one company
Run ocean leases, hydroponic greenhouses, mushroom fruiting rooms, and row-crop fields under a single workspace. Site kinds include farm, ocean_lease, hydroponic, greenhouse, aquaponic — mix them freely.
AOA zones (NOAA)
Aquaculture Opportunity Areas overlaid on the site map — Gulf of Mexico and Gulf of Alaska. Pick a permitted zone and your coordinates auto-fill, with a badge linking to the NOAA source atlas.
Harvest locations
Every harvest gets a saved pin — species, block #, vessel, lat/lng. One-tap Directions opens Google Maps, Apple Maps, or copies coordinates.
Farm sites
Multiple sites per farm — in-water, on-land, or mixed — each tagged by purpose: farming, harvesting, processing, nursery, storage, office. One farm, many distinct places.
Location-aware tasks
Assign any task to a farm site, a specific growing unit / tank, a saved harvest pin, or a custom lat/lng. The assignee gets one-tap directions wherever they're going.
My Tasks (mobile)
A dedicated /my-tasks view shows everything assigned to you with location details and Google / Apple Maps / Copy coords buttons. Built for the truck and the dock.
Products
Recipes, yield calculator, COGS, multi-tier pricing. Yield view shows the bottleneck ingredient.
Purchase Orders
Drafts, sent, received. Receiving adds a lot and writes an expense automatically.
Vendors
One place for suppliers — contacts, lead times, every PO you've sent them.
Expenses
Labor, rent, utilities, fuel, supplies, repairs, fees, marketing. Quick-add + CSV import.
Exports
CSV exports of orders, inventory, expenses, harvest history — for accountants and audits.
Brackish import
Pull products, recipes, vendors, POs, and sales orders live into a sister workspace like BrackishBooks.
Team
Up to 25 teammates per company. Six roles from Owner to Viewer.
Tasks
Assign field work. Auto-created from order shortages and low-stock alerts.
Feedback
Floating button anywhere. Bug, idea, or praise — we read everything.
